Streams in the Wasteland: Urban Mission and Church Planting

'See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland' (Isaiah 43:19).

Through the prophet Isaiah God pointed to a new thing he was doing on the margins and in the forgotten places. At this year's Urban Forum, we'll be looking at the new ways in which God is creatively leading his people in mission and church planting in inner cities and outer estate communities. Historic models of church and mission have not fared well in these places, where local people can feel very marginalised and forgotten - as can those who seek to minister in Christ's name amongst them. So, in a new season of hope, we'll be hearing encouraging stories and discerning a bigger picture of what God is doing amongst some of the poorest people in our country. God cares deeply for our urban communities, and we want to support those who minister in these areas.

We have a full agenda for our two-day forum, with a range of seminars and keynote sessions by Nicola Neal (Every Life) and Head of Urban Ministry Andy Jolley. We'll also be joined by Ben Woodfield, Mark Miller, Paul Ward and Stephen Beach, with plenty of opportunities for prayer ministry, to gather together in worship - and for food!

There's no quick fix, and to make an impact we have to commit for the long term, journeying through the ups and downs. That is why we want to gather together to encourage and remind each other that God is at work and he will sustain and equip us. Whether you're new to urban ministry, considering it in the future, or have years of experience, join us as we envision, encourage, equip and release one another to serve God in the cities to which he has called us. We want to hear God's voice for us and for our situations, so we can join in with the new things he is doing.

Step out of your ministry to reflect, dwell and delight in the stories, support, love and encouragement you need to serve your city in Christ's name.

Let's celebrate the power of God to bring the flourishing of his kingdom in our urban communities.
